How to achieve an evenly colored bar
Some additives, like the essential oils and oats used in this recipe, can be added directly to the main batch of soap. Additives used to color soap—clays, herbs, roots, cocoa powder, or oxide powder—are best mixed with a small quantity of the soap mixture prior to being added to the main batch. Otherwise you may have splotches of darker color within your soap bar.
Measure the amount of the additive you need into a small bowl.
Pour about 2 cups of the soap mixture (a light trace) on top and whisk together until thoroughly incoporated. With clay, be sure to stir until no lumps remain.
